SAN FRANCESCO AL PRATO - TICKET

Duration:
1 day - 09 SEPTEMBER
You are going to:
PERUGIA, ITALIA
Trip information

The church of San Francesco al Prato is one of the most important monuments in the entire city of Perugia. Its eventful history has seen a succession of demolitions and reconstructions over the centuries, culminating in its reopening in 2021.

Now serving as the city Auditorium, the church still retains the wonderful architectural layout of the mid-13th century, when the building was founded. Since its origin, this church has been a favorite place for the representation of the city's illustrious noble families, such as the Baglioni and Degli Oddi families. These very families commissioned some of the most important works of art of the Renaissance, from two of the greatest artists of the time, Perugino and Raphael. In fact, the church housed Perugino's Resurrection, now in the Pope's private library, as well as Raphael's Oddi Altarpiece and Baglioni Deposition, which left the church in the succession of its historical events.
Inside the Degli Oddi Chapel, a digital reproduction of Raphael's work allows you to see the masterpiece in its original location.

A specially produced brochure accompanies you on your visit to this marvelous place, thanks also to images and reconstructions that promote understanding of a structure whose remains bear witness to a history almost a thousand years old.
