Right next to Piazza 40 Martiri stands this beautiful medieval church dedicated to St. Francis, a place that is linked to the life of the saint from Assisi by some historical events that you will discover during the visit, thanks to the guide's fascinating narration.

Stage 3: Piazza Grande  
The visit continues through the San Martino quarter, the oldest quarter of Gubbio and also one of the most characteristic and evocative; winding streets, aristocratic towers and small houses overlooking the Camignano stream make it one of the most picturesque areas of the city. Across Via dei Consoli you reach Piazza Grande, a historic town square where the façade of the Palazzo dei Consoli, a testament to the glorious past of the Free Commune of Gubbio, stands out. From the square you have a beautiful view of the typical Gubbio houses, this place is a landmark of the town and it is from here that one of the oldest Italian folkloric events, the Festa dei Ceri di Gubbio, starts.

The cathedral of Saints Marian and James is the main place of worship in Gubbio; it is a Gothic-style cathedral featuring beautiful stained-glass windows and numerous works of art by medieval painters of the Umbrian and Tuscan schools. The visit ends with a tour of the hanging garden of the Ducal Palace, from here there is a beautiful view of the valley below; behind the garden is the ancient Ducal Palace, commissioned by the Duke of Urbino Federico da Montefeltro.
